Komaneka at Rasa Sayang: Why We Chose a Central Ubud Base

We expected to spend much of our time outside the hotel in Ubud, so we looked at places in town before considering a jungle location. Komaneka at Rasa Sayang is on Monkey Forest Road, and its official description presents it as a town-center stay close to Ubud’s cultural attractions and everyday life.
The plan was to walk nearby in the morning and eat close by in the evening, then spend a day within the grounds of our next hotel, Maya Ubud.

What guests mentioned
Recent Korean guest reviews often mentioned the central location, spacious rooms, greenery around the pool, and friendly service. Some guests found breakfast simpler than expected. One family traveler wrote that they were satisfied with the room, bedding, and pool but that the breakfast choices were limited.
Discussions about Ubud accommodation on Reddit also included positive opinions that it was central while remaining quiet, along with praise for the spacious rooms, breakfast, and pool. The same thread pointed out that some room balconies may face the neighboring building. Neither view represents every room, so if the view matters, it is better to ask the property directly about the location of the reserved room.
An April 2026 Tripadvisor review also praised the location and service. The dates we checked and the reviews behind the scores vary between sites, so we did not rank hotels by scores alone.
Location and nearby walks
Komaneka’s official location page and Google Maps place Komaneka at Rasa Sayang on Monkey Forest Road, Ubud. The address on the map is Jl. Monkey Forest, Ubud, Gianyar, Bali 80571. When choosing restaurants, we planned to look at the actual walking route and the way back at night, rather than straight-line distance alone.
One advantage of Komaneka is being able to walk around nearby, so we did not plan to combine several distant places that require a car.
- Ubud Palace → Ubud Art Market: a daytime plan to see the palace, market, and cafés together
- Saraswati Temple: briefly see the lotus pond and architecture, and check whether it overlaps with an evening performance
- Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary: close to the hotel, but only when we can follow the rule not to touch or lure the monkeys
- Campuhan Ridge Walk: only in the morning before it gets hot; if both are planned for the same day, choose either this walk or a palace-and-market walk
“Nearby” means a location on the map, while the actual walking time changes with sidewalks, stairs, construction, and weather. At night, we will check well-lit roads and the vehicle pickup point.
Places to eat nearby
We planned some meals at Madu Manis and others around Monkey Forest Road, saving names so we could choose just one place in the direction we walked that day.
Cafe Wayan & Bakery was an option for Balinese and Western dishes on Monkey Forest Road, while Three Monkeys Ubud was a relaxed dinner option without going far from the hotel. For bakery items and a meal in central Ubud, we saved Casa Luna; for breakfast or lunch around a Monkey Forest walk, Watercress Ubud.
Whether a place is walkable depends on the route, weather, and walking conditions. Before booking, we will check the hotel entrance and the way back on the map, and prioritize a vehicle pickup at night.
Rooms and pool

The main room categories shown on the official room pages are as follows.
| Room | Official area | Features | What to check before booking |
|---|---|---|---|
| Deluxe Room | 65㎡ | King or twin, balcony and terrace, bathtub | Floor, natural light, and actual view |
| Rooftop Garden Villa | 142㎡ | Private veranda and sun deck | Views over Ubud’s rooftops and stairs |
| Two Bedroom Rooftop Garden Villa | 190㎡ | 2 bedrooms and dining space | Actual number of guests and bed configuration |
The official FAQ says that guests can request a higher floor or a good view, but does not guarantee a particular floor or view. If the room view matters, we will not look only at sales language such as “jungle view”; we will ask directly about the floor and direction of the reserved room.
According to the official 2026 guest directory, the main pool is 8m×17m, has a depth of 1.4–1.5m, and operates from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. It is difficult to regard it as a shallow pool for children, and it may also feel deep to shorter adults. We will check the operating hours and depth again at check-in.
How we divided our time between the two hotels
Trying to see Ubud Palace, the market, cafés, and restaurants all at once quickly makes for a long day. Staying in town lets us choose one place in the morning, keep walking if we want, and head back if we are tired.
The official page also highlights access to shops, restaurants, temples, performance venues, museums, and galleries around Monkey Forest Road. We will check actual walking times separately, as they depend on the entrance and road conditions. We set aside town walks and meals for Komaneka, and days among extensive grounds and riverside facilities for Maya Ubud.
We decided not to add a major tour on a hotel-change day, leaving only one or two places to walk around before or after check-in.
Time at the hotel
Madu Manis Kitchen · Google Maps
Madu Manis Kitchen is a terrace-style restaurant overlooking the pool and tropical plants. The official menu description lists both Mediterranean and Indonesian food.
The official page’s examples included Mediterranean moussaka, grilled mahi-mahi with mussel wine sauce, and mezze with kefta·chicken·fish kebabs. It also listed stir-fried beef with basil and spices and rice, Komaneka crêpe, and mango dessert.
There is no guarantee that the menu names will remain unchanged, so if there is a dish we want, we will check the official menu PDF and confirm what is available that day. The official page also advises guests to inquire at least one day before the desired date.
We had it in mind for a day when going into town was inconvenient, a late lunch after check-in, or a simple meal before changing hotels.
Akar Wangi Spa · Official spa menu
Akar Wangi Spa is on the top floor of the property, and the official description introduces air-conditioned treatment rooms, a steam room, a jacuzzi, a terrace, and a reflecting pool. It also lists treatments such as facials, traditional massages, and body scrubs.
When checked in September 2026, the official website listed daily hours of 8 a.m.–6 p.m., while the official 2026 guest directory listed 9 a.m.–7 p.m. Confirm the actual hours and booking directly with the property before a visit.
Spa prices and programs may change, so we will not treat the PDF consulted during the research as a fixed price list. Before visiting, we will check available booking times and whether taxes and service charges are included.
The official complimentary-activities poster checked during September 2026 research listed the following schedule.
| Day | Activity | Posted time |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | Balinese traditional dance | 14:00–15:00 |
| Tuesday | Balinese traditional clothing | 14:00–15:00 |
| Wednesday | Batik lesson | 14:00–15:00 |
| Thursday | Lontar writing | 14:00–15:00 |
| Every day | Making traditional offerings | 16:00–17:00 |
The official Experience page and guest directory appear to show differences in the day and yoga listings. We will not use this table as a confirmed timetable; we will ask for the weekly schedule again after check-in. One short activity on a day when we stay at the hotel is enough.
How we planned to divide the day
For a day in town, the plan was breakfast, a walk toward the palace and market, one café, a short rest in the room, and dinner. We would choose only one place from 49 Ubud restaurants and cafés based on the hotel’s location, rather than book several distant restaurants that required driving.
On a hot day, we planned a short morning walk, time at Madu Manis or in the room during the day, and a possible visit to Akar Wangi Spa later in the afternoon. Whether to add a long dinner course on the same day would depend on the reservation time. The day before changing hotels was for packing and one meal at the property, checking the check-out time, luggage storage, and transport to the next hotel before adding another attraction.
