Things to Do in Sanur: A Pre-Departure Plan
Flowers and large leaves photographed in a garden during the trip.
Before departure, we looked at official operating information separately from traveler accounts and chose activities to consider while based at Andaz Bali. The garden photo was taken during our September 2026 trip; it does not mean we tried every activity below. Weather and on-site guidance take priority for sea trips, boats, and turtle programs.
In Sanur, we planned to slow down toward the end of the trip rather than visit one attraction after another: a sunrise walk, time at the pool, and one market or yoga stop.
Opinions in Reddit discussions about Sanur differed sharply. Travelers expecting waves, swimming, and nightlife criticized the beach as boring and said there was nothing to do. Locals and long-term visitors said they liked Sanur for its slow pace, pointing to early-morning sunrises, walks and runs of around 5 km, cycling, cafés, local meals, and quiet evenings. Sanur is not the right beach for everyone; it suits people who want to take the latter part of a trip slowly.
There was plenty to consider at Andaz Bali itself, so we planned only one activity outside the resort each day.
Choose the pace for the day
| If… | Recommendation | Alternative |
|---|---|---|
| We wake up early | Sunrise walk or easy run | Beach café |
| We are curious about local life | Morning Sindhu Market | Night market only if it is nearby |
| We want to loosen up | Power of Now Oasis | Shankha Spa |
| It is hot or rainy | ICON Bali or Le Mayeur Museum | Rest at the hotel |
| Sea conditions are good | SUP, kayak, or Lembongan | Pool |
Spend the morning by the beach
Sanur Beach Promenade
The first thing we wanted to do was a beach walk that needed no separate booking. Sanur’s east-facing coast is good for seeing the morning light, and the promenade connects resorts, cafés, and local beaches.
The purpose of running is to check how we feel, not to set a record.
- Do not start while it is completely dark.
- Slow down when there are many pedestrians or bicycles.
- Check for construction, sand, and standing water.
- Reduce the distance if it is hot and humid.
- Calculate the return distance as well.
On a day with a sunrise walk, we will not also schedule morning water activities and intense yoga.
Check the promenade before cycling
A bicycle is convenient if we want to see a longer stretch of Sanur Beach, but it is hard to pick up speed around pedestrians and narrow sections. We will first check the hotel’s rental terms and return time, as well as the condition of the brakes and lights.
If the morning promenade is crowded, we will switch to walking, and at night we will not go far on unfamiliar roads.
Local life and a chance to unwind
Pasar Sindhu has a different feel in the morning and evening.
In the Korean visitors’ accounts I read, the morning market and night market were described quite differently.
In the morning, it is closer to a neighborhood market where people buy vegetables, fruit, fish, and spices. It is worth visiting if we want to see local ingredients and everyday life in Sanur.
On the other hand, one long-term visitor wrote that the night market is small, that expectations about hygiene should be lowered, and that it is not worth coming from far away just to see it. If it is close to our hotel or walking route, we will take a quick look; if we expect a large night market or a special dinner, we will skip it.
Yoga at Power of Now Oasis · Official class information
This is a place to take classes in a bamboo shala by the beach. The official page says that all levels can participate, drop-ins are available, reservations are not required, and visitors should arrive 20–30 minutes before class. The schedule is updated weekly.
The day after a run, or on a day without water activities, we will look first at relatively slow classes such as Hatha, Yin, and Restorative. If we have pain or an injury, we will avoid intense classes and tell the instructor.
We will check the price and schedule again during the travel week. If we also plan to do yoga at Maya Ubud and Andaz, we will not pay for all three in advance.
Get out of the rain or midday heat
ICON BALI Mall · Official information
ICON Bali is an indoor alternative next to Sanur Beach. Rather than making the mall itself the focus of the trip, we will use it when it rains or to escape the midday heat, and when we need to buy something before flying home.
Korean reviews include both the opinion that souvenirs, a supermarket, and brand stores are convenient to see in one place, and the opinion that it is an ordinary shopping mall if you expect somewhere distinctly Balinese. It is best viewed as an indoor option close to the hotel.
Le Mayeur Museum for a small cultural stop
This small museum shows the home and works of Adrien-Jean Le Mayeur, a painter who lived in Sanur. We are keeping it as an option when we want to add one cultural space to a beach walk.
We will choose it when we are interested in the building, garden, and art history of Sanur rather than expecting a large museum. We will check whether it is operating and its opening hours again on the day of the visit.
Check local conditions before making sea plans
Sea Turtle Village · Andaz Bali official activities guide
The official Andaz Bali page introduces the turtle conservation space and related activities at the resort. Hatching and releases are not guaranteed daily activities; they may vary with the animals and the season.
- Participate only in programs explained by on-site staff.
- Do not touch or pick up turtles on your own.
- Do not move an animal for a photograph.
- Check the purpose and operating method of donations, feeding, and releases.
Sea Turtle Village is frequently recommended in Korean travel articles, but we should expect that there may be no turtles or program available on the day we visit.
Sanur SUP & Kayak
In Sanur, we can choose SUP, kayaking, or windsurfing. Water activities are also listed among the official activities at Andaz Bali, but we will check the wind, tide, waves, and operating days first.
We will not do it if the condition of the equipment, life jackets, safety briefing, or instructor accompaniment is unclear. We will not add a separate snorkeling tour on a day when we do SUP.
Sanur Harbour · Nusa Lembongan
Sanur is a convenient departure point for boats to Lembongan and Penida. But once travel to the harbor, boarding wait time, the boat, and transport on the island are included, the trip can take up almost the entire day.
- Check the boat operator and departure point.
- Read the information about life jackets and insurance.
- If seasickness is a concern, plan where to sit and bring medication.
- Have an alternative in case of high waves or cancellation.
- Do not try to visit too many viewpoints on the island in one go.
If resting during the latter part of the trip is more important, we will skip it without hesitation. A day at the Andaz pool and Sanur Beach is enough.
How we would choose for our itinerary
For the easiest day, we would walk at sunrise, have breakfast, spend time at the pool, and eat at a beach restaurant. For a little more activity, we would visit Sindhu Market in the morning or go to Power of Now Oasis, then stop at a café and rest at the hotel. A full-day outing would mean booking either Lembongan or one other sea activity, with no major tour the day before or after. If it rains, we would switch to ICON Bali or Le Mayeur Museum, followed by the spa and a meal at the hotel.
