Maya Ubud: Forest Steps, Running, and a Yoga-Day Plan

This record combines a September 2026 photograph with pre-trip research and plans. The running, yoga, and activity details are not reviews of programs we personally used. Prices and schedules reflect September 2026 research; the editing date is not a fresh verification of operations. Check official information again before booking.

We planned to walk around central Ubud from Komaneka and set aside resort days at Maya Ubud. To enjoy Maya Ubud’s extensive grounds and riverside facilities, we planned to avoid repeated trips into town just to find restaurants.

At Maya, the plan was to choose just two from the pool, spa, and dining.

A forest-and-stair photograph from Maya Ubud, September 2026.

The photo above shows a long flight of steps between the trees. It is worth considering how much climbing and descending it takes to reach a facility, not just what it looks like in a photo.

What we looked for in guest reviews#

Actual stays by Korean travelers mentioned the pool, the shuttle to central Ubud, morning yoga, and Mayasari dining as strengths. At the same time, one guest had to walk down many stairs to reach the pool across the large grounds and only later learned that an elevator was available. That is why, rather than choosing facilities based only on photos, we need to get the resort map first and check the routes between them.

A recent resort comparison on Reddit included opinions describing Maya Ubud as a resort with strong modern facilities, a fitness center, and a spa. In another honeymoon-accommodation discussion, an actual guest wrote that it fit the combination of jungle views, a romantic atmosphere, and good service they wanted. Short comments cannot tell us the condition of every room. Check the room location and renovation status in the official booking information before choosing a room.

On 18 September 2026, the official website displayed a Google review snapshot of 4.8/5 from 8,329 reviews. Public reviews praised breakfast, gardens, and the riverside atmosphere, while also suggesting checks on happy-hour times and travel between facilities. Having time to use those facilities mattered more to us than a score ranking.

Location and getting around#

We checked the location on the Maya Ubud Resort & Spa official website and Google Maps. It is on Jalan Gunung Sari, Peliatan, Ubud, with the map address Jl. Gn. Sari, Peliatan, Kecamatan Ubud, Kabupaten Gianyar, Bali 80571. It is not extremely far from central Ubud, but time within the large grounds and time traveling into town need to be considered separately.

Maya’s official information introduces 18 hectares of tropical terrain and a riverside valley, and says that a free shuttle runs to Ubud Center, about 5–10 minutes by car. Check the shuttle timetable and whether reservations are required before a visit.

Resort days at Maya#

Maya Ubud’s official facilities list separately mentions a forest-view pool, a children’s pool, a riverside pool above the Petanu River, a yoga pavilion, a fitness center, a tennis court, and a spa.

We did not build a schedule around visiting every facility. It seemed better to leave time to move and rest between swimming and meals.

At Komaneka at Rasa Sayang, we planned to walk around Monkey Forest Road and visit nearby restaurants. At Maya Ubud, rather than keep going back and forth into town, we planned to separate days when we would need the shuttle from days at the resort.

For activities on a transfer day between the two properties, favor a package that connects pick-up at the first hotel to drop-off at the next one in a single vehicle. This is easier to manage than arranging separate transfers around check-in.

The order of stops on check-in day#

The confirmed order in the booking message was pick-up at Komaneka at Rasa Sayang → Picheaven Bali Swing → Sawah Adventure on the Ayung River → drop-off at Maya Ubud. The original screen also showed a name, phone number, travel date, and payment details, so it is not published; the graphic below recreates only the order of the places.

This graphic shows a separately booked activity pick-up and drop-off order. It is not Maya Ubud’s complimentary Ubud Center shuttle route, and actual driving times vary with traffic and waiting time.

Eating and relaxing at the resort#

Mayasari#

The official page says that Mayasari is next to the main pool and offers both a breakfast buffet and à la carte dishes. It also says that on some evenings, Balinese cultural performances such as kecak, barong, and Ramayana are held alongside dinner.

At the time of our research, the official hours were breakfast from 7–11 a.m., dinner from 6–10 p.m., and afternoon tea from 4–5 p.m.

This is a place where we can choose whether to go straight into town after breakfast or start slowly beside the pool. Check cultural-performance dates and the dinner menu before a visit.

The River Café#

River Café is an outdoor café near the riverside pool overlooking the Petanu River. The official description introduces Italian-style dishes, a riverside view, and a connection to the Infinity Riverside Pool and spa.

The official hours recorded during September 2026 research were 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. It would work well for a late lunch on a pool or spa day, but it may involve some distance even within the resort, so check the route before setting out.

Tree Bar#

Tree Bar is an outdoor pavilion above the Ubud valley. The official page says that it adds Mediterranean elements to an international menu and serves beer, cocktails, and wine by the glass.

The official information says it is open every day from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. We can decide whether to use it for the breakfast à la carte menu, the daytime terrace, or evening drinks.

Pools#

Based on the official facilities list, Maya Ubud has pools with different characteristics.

FacilityHow to think about itWhat to check
Infinity Forest PoolWhen we want the forest and morning atmosphereOperating hours and crowding
Kids PoolTraveling with childrenAge limits and guardian requirements
Infinity Riverside PoolStaying for a long time with a view of the river and valleyRoute to River Café and the spa

Rather than trying to visit every pool in one day because of the photos, it is better to choose one at a time, such as the forest-view pool in the morning and the riverside pool in the afternoon.

Spa at Maya#

The official page says that Spa at Maya operates open-air treatment pavilions in the rainforest. Guests walk from the central reception through the trees to the treatment area, so we can expect a different atmosphere from an indoor spa.

The official hours recorded during September 2026 research were 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. The plan was to book one massage or treatment without adding a strenuous activity on the same day.

Check spa prices, treatments, and non-resident access on the official booking page. A photograph alone does not establish that a treatment is a “riverside massage”; confirm the room and treatment being booked.

The official page says that Maya Art Lounge has antique crafts, handwoven textiles, homewares, and souvenirs. We kept it as an option for a short look on a day when we do not want to go far to shop.

Running and yoga#

The official facilities page does not list a dedicated jogging track. Looking at public maps of the roads around the resort, the simplest route starting directly at the resort is an out-and-back of about 5 km along the resort approach road and Jalan Sawah Indah. It is not a route verified by a runner’s public GPS track, so treat it only as a map-based candidate and ask security at check-in whether it is suitable for an early-morning jog.

A mapped 5.1 km out-and-back from the resort#

  1. Start near the center of Maya Ubud.
  2. Follow the paved resort approach road north for about 400 m to the main-gate area.
  3. Turn left and head west along Jalan Gunungsari for about 450 m.
  4. At the Jalan Sawah Indah junction, turn left and continue south.
  5. Follow the village road for about 1.69 km to the southern turnaround, then return the same way.

Following this one-way Google Maps walking route in both directions gives an estimated 5.08 km using public road centerlines. It is a candidate out-and-back mixing the resort’s paved approach with asphalt and concrete village roads, but Google Maps walking mode does not prove that every section is runnable or safe from traffic.

The roughly 450 m section of Jalan Gunungsari carries cars and scooters, and Jalan Sawah Indah is not a traffic-free rice-field path. We would start around sunrise, stay where approaching traffic is visible when safe to do so, and run without earphones. In Ubud’s heat and humidity, this is better treated as an RPE 3–4 easy run than a workout for pace.

To reduce time on roads with traffic, another option is a short drive to the Ubud Ricefield Walk trailhead, then 3.5 km toward Sari Organik · Subak Sok Wayah and back the same way. The separate Ubud running guide describes that roughly 7 km rice-field out-and-back in detail.

Maya’s Forest Trail is a walk, not a running route#

Despite its name, the official Maya’s Forest Trail is a guided 60-minute nature walk. It is complimentary for in-house guests, requires at least two people, and uses a natural unpaved trail with slopes and steps toward the river. A recent guest account also describes about an hour of walking through forest paths and steps. We would not begin by running it, especially after rain; the safer plan is to walk it once with the guide and assess the surface afterward.

Yoga classes#

The Yoga Pavilion is a semi-open space on the second floor above the fitness center. Recent Korean guest accounts say that mats, towels, and water were provided and that the class looked out toward the jungle.

  • Daily, 7:30–8:30 a.m.: Morning Yoga
  • Daily, 3–4 p.m.: Aerial Yoga
  • Monday, 1:30 p.m.: Afternoon Yoga
  • Tuesday, 1:30 p.m.: Vinyasa
  • Wednesday, 1:30 p.m.: Mat Pilates
  • Thursday, 1:30 p.m.: No afternoon class listed
  • Friday, 1:30 p.m.: Meditation
  • Saturday, 1:30 p.m.: Afternoon Yoga
  • Sunday, 1:30 p.m.: Hatha

The official wellbeing timetable consulted in September 2026 stated a minimum age of 13 and one-day advance booking for the sessions listed on that timetable. The daily beginner-level Morning Yoga is described as complimentary for in-house guests, but the wording on the separate class-pricing page is not completely consistent about afternoon classes, so confirm inclusion when reserving.

  • Aerial Yoga: 60 minutes, IDR 150,000++ per person, or IDR 181,500 after the stated 21% tax and service charge
  • Yoga Wall: 60 minutes, IDR 400,000++ per person
  • Private Yoga: 90 minutes, IDR 400,000++ per person

If we check in on Saturday, the afternoon sessions may be too close to our arrival time. The most practical sequence is therefore a 5 km easy run at around 6 a.m. the next morning, Morning Yoga at 7:30 a.m., and breakfast after about 8:40 a.m.

Walks and other activities#

Rice Paddy Walk#

The Rice Paddy Walk is a 60-minute guided walk through the nearby village and fields, with an introduction to Balinese agricultural traditions. It is complimentary for in-house guests and requires at least two people. Its exact days and departure times do not appear on a fixed public timetable, so we need the current weekly sheet before arrival. It would also be useful to ask the guide which sections, if any, are suitable for an independent morning run.

Fitness Centre · Tennis Court#

The Fitness Centre is the indoor fallback in rain or when the roads outside do not feel comfortable. Its public page at the time of research focused on membership benefits rather than in-house guest hours or an equipment list, so confirm both at check-in.

The tennis court publishes prices for the court, a coach, a hitting partner, and new balls. Ask separately about racket hire and in-house guest hours.

Court use was listed at IDR 280,000++ for one hour, with a coach or hitting partner each priced at IDR 410,000++ per hour. A new can of four tennis balls was IDR 150,000++.

  • Balinese cooking class: 10 a.m.–2 p.m., minimum two people, IDR 500,000 · 600,000 · 700,000 · 800,000++ per person depending on the menu, with 24-hour advance booking recommended
  • Mixology class: 2–8:30 p.m., minimum two people, IDR 500,000++ per person
  • e-Bike Tour: about three hours, IDR 690,000 or 790,000 nett per person depending on the route, including a guide, return transfers, lunch, and insurance
  • Soul Blessing: IDR 1,000,000++ for one person or IDR 1,800,000++ for a couple
  • Healing Session: private 60-minute session for up to two people, IDR 1,200,000++

Off-site experiences such as e-biking, rafting, Mount Batur climbing, and melukat purification are also offered. For a short stay, however, Morning Yoga, the Rice Paddy Walk, and the Forest Trail have higher priority because they start within the resort experience.

Many activities officially require a day’s advance booking. Before arrival, we plan to contact the official Leisure team on WhatsApp at +62 823 3934 1238 or by email at leisure@mayaubud.com, first asking for two Morning Yoga places and the Rice Paddy Walk and Forest Trail schedule during our stay.

What to note in guest reviews#

The author of a May 2025 stay report used Morning Yoga and the Forest Trail, describing yoga as a good way to loosen up and work up a sweat. An August 2025 report mentioned more participants than expected and said the air and atmosphere of the forest-facing pavilion felt different from an urban studio.

The reports needed a separate check before using them as a timetable. The author of a July 2025 report joined yoga at 7:30 a.m. and the Forest Trail at 10 a.m., but the official page did not publish a fixed Forest Trail departure at the time of our research. This was useful as a sample day, not a substitute for the latest weekly sheet.

A November 2025 tennis and yoga report described Morning Yoga as beginner-friendly and stretching-led, yet still enough to work up a sweat. The author of a June 2026 report joined the 7:30 a.m. class on two consecutive days and especially liked the breeze and birdsong. The tennis and yoga report also recommended reserving the coach and court ahead; its price paid may differ from the tariff at the time of research. The May report said that only about two spa slots for the following day remained at check-in, another reason to ask before arrival if a particular treatment matters.

Guest reports quote different afternoon-tea times. The official page consulted in September 2026 stated 4–5 p.m., so the schedule provided at check-in and the official listing take priority.

A day in town#

Maya Ubud’s official facilities page says that there is a free shuttle to Ubud Center, about 5–10 minutes by car.

When going to a restaurant or café in town, choose just one area that works with the shuttle schedule. If the return shuttle time is uncertain, also check the taxi or ride-hailing cost and the final pickup location.

When choosing a restaurant from 49 Ubud restaurants and cafés, use the accommodation as the reference point. On days when we use the riverside pool and restaurants at the resort, do not force in one more restaurant in town.

Since we planned plenty of time at Maya Ubud, the plan was not to chain together many places on a day out. Choose just one of the following groups.

These are not nearby attractions within walking distance of the resort. They are surrounding candidates for driving routes from Maya Ubud. Check actual travel times for the departure time and traffic.

For meals, add only one restaurant outside the resort on a day when we are not eating at Mayasari, River Café, or Tree Bar.

  • Bebek Tepi Sawah: When looking for Balinese duck dishes on a route southeast of Ubud
  • Warung Mina Ubud: When looking for an uncomplicated local meal outside the resort
  • Hujan Locale: When going into town and wanting to see food from several regions of Indonesia in one place
  • Moksa Ubud: When scheduling a separate trip west to see plant-based dishes and a garden together

None of these places is “right next to Maya Ubud.” We will check the route to and from the resort on the map and their actual operating status, and choose them only on days that do not overlap with meals at the resort.

The day plan we made before departure#

A day staying at the resort#

7:30 a.m. Morning Yoga → Mayasari breakfast → Forest Trail or forest-view pool → late lunch at River Café → Spa at Maya or the riverside pool → 4 p.m. afternoon tea → Tree Bar

This is not a schedule where we try to do everything. It is a schedule that leaves plenty of time to move between the pool and meals.

A day going into town#

Breakfast → free shuttle to Ubud Center → one restaurant and one café → return by shuttle or car → dinner at Mayasari or Tree Bar

After walking around town for a long time and returning, avoid overlapping the route by going back down to River Café as well.

Check-in and check-out days#

Ask first whether luggage storage is available and what the conditions are for using the facilities. Whether we can use the pool before check-in, or shower and use common facilities after check-out, may vary according to the room booking conditions and hotel policy.

What to look at again before booking#

  • The actual room location and travel distance within the resort
  • The Ubud Center shuttle timetable and whether reservations are required
  • Mayasari breakfast, dinner, and afternoon-tea hours and performance schedule
  • The latest menu and operating hours for River Café and Tree Bar
  • Conditions for using Infinity Forest Pool and Infinity Riverside Pool
  • Spa at Maya treatments, prices, and available booking times
  • Availability for Morning Yoga and whether afternoon yoga is included for in-house guests
  • Current days and departure times for the Rice Paddy Walk and Forest Trail
  • On-the-ground road conditions on the mapped 5 km jogging route
  • Available booking times and extra charges for tennis and cooking classes
  • Taxes, service charges, and the cost of travel outside the resort
