Ubud Restaurants and Cafés in Bali: How We Narrowed Them Down Before Departure

Food photographed during our September trip. The restaurant has not been identified.

The restaurant shortlist and itinerary notes below come from research before the trip. We added food photos taken during our September 2026 trip, but could not identify the restaurant or dishes, so the photos are not evidence that we visited any place on this list or a basis for judging its taste or service. This is a saved-planning note, not a restaurant review. Opening days, menus, and prices can change; check official sites and maps before going.

The Ubud restaurant list grew faster than any other while we were planning our Bali honeymoon. It ranged from brunch cafés overlooking rice fields to tasting menus that take up an evening, with Indonesian food, Latin American dishes, grilled food, and vegan options in between. We could not fit them all in, so we sorted them by breakfast, dinner, and coffee, picked a few that worked with our hotels and walking routes, and left the rest as backups for a long wait or a change of plans.

Google ratings and displayed popular dishes and items are snapshots from 2026-08-30, not rankings; review counts and menu displays can change. If Google does not show a menu, check the official one before going.

We also checked Indonesian local food platforms separately#

On 2026-09-17, we revisited Naver blogs, Google Maps, Reddit, Indonesian local platforms and media, and restaurant websites. We used Korean-language reviews to find candidates and check recurring opinions only when the result or post explicitly said the writer had paid, that it was not an ad, and that no compensation was involved. We excluded posts marked as sponsored, paid for, or provided with a meal, as well as promotional-looking posts whose financial relationship was unclear. Self-funded is still only the writer’s own label, not a guarantee of taste.

Unlike MangoPlate or Naver Place in Korea, no single service covered everything in Bali, so we checked each source for a different purpose.

  • GoFood and GrabFood: These are delivery and ordering platforms actually used locally. After setting an Ubud address, they are useful for checking whether a place is open, its current menu and prices, and the delivery area. However, we do not transfer delivery ratings directly to the restaurant’s atmosphere or service.
  • Chope Bali: This is closer to a reservation and dining-deals platform than a review network covering every warung. We used it to check some reservation-oriented restaurants, such as Mozaic’s Ubud reservation page.
  • PergiKuliner: This is an Indonesian restaurant-discovery and review service, but its search coverage for Ubud and Bali restaurants was not stable enough in this check. We did not inflate the amount of evidence simply by calling it a “local platform.”
  • Indonesian-language local media: We used Nibble’s Ubud restaurant list, Kompas Food’s article on family restaurants in Ubud, and detikBali’s report on a restaurant in Ubud to discover candidates. On Nibble, we checked whether Warung Makan Bu Rus, Sun Sun Warung, Mozaic, Batubara, Pica, and Casa Luna, which were already included here, also appeared repeatedly in local-language lists.

In short, it makes sense to divide the research this way: Indonesian-language media for discovering candidates, GoFood and GrabFood for actual menus and prices, Chope and official sites for reservations, and Google Maps for locations and recent user reports. GoFood and GrabFood results vary by access location, so set the accommodation address and check again just before travelling. Traveloka Eats, which once served as a restaurant directory, has already been discontinued, so it was excluded from our sources.

Save the Ubud hotel locations on the map first#

We pinned the two Ubud hotels separately from the restaurant candidates, as reference points for judging where each place fits. The links open their locations in Google Maps.

HotelLocationGoogle MapsHow we use it in the food plan
Komaneka at Rasa SayangMonkey Forest Road, central UbudOpen mapReference point for adding town walks, cafés, and dinner candidates
Maya Ubud Resort & SpaJalan Gunung Sari, PeliatanOpen mapCheck dining options within the resort and its shuttle service first, then choose only one restaurant outside the resort

Komaneka was the reference point for walks around Monkey Forest Road; at Maya Ubud, the plan was to use the resort’s pool, spa, and dining, then choose at most one place outside. Walking times vary by restaurant, so check each route on the map.

We grouped the candidates by meal and route#

  • Indonesian food: Hujan Locale, Spice by Blake, Nusantara by Locavore
  • One long dinner during the trip: Locavore NXT, Mozaic, Apéritif, Kubu at Mandapa
  • Smoke and grill: Batubara, ORYn, Nari
  • Rice-field or jungle views: Pison Ubud, RÜSTERS, Huma Cafe, The Elephant
  • Coffee: Seniman Coffee, Seta Coffee Library, SUKA UBUD
  • Vegetarian and healthy food: Mudra, Zest Ubud, Alchemy, Moksa Ubud
  • A simple breakfast: Watercress, Daily Baguette, Milk & Madu

What we actually need is about 1 dinner + 1 brunch + 1 coffee stop. We can choose the rest based on the walking route and how we feel that day.

A quick note on Michelin#

There are no Michelin-starred restaurants in Bali.

As of 2026, the Michelin Guide does not evaluate restaurants in Indonesia. In search results, “Michelin” often referred to chefs who had worked at overseas starred restaurants, guest dinners, or the Michelin hotel selection. That is different from an actual star.

Although it has no Michelin star, Locavore NXT ranked 44th in Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2026. Its lengthy tasting menu centers on Indonesian ingredients, fermentation, and sustainability, so it is completely different in character from a typical local-food dinner.

If we have one proper dinner#

Spice by Blake#

Google rating: 4.5/5 (688 reviews, checked 2026-08-30) · Google-displayed popular dishes and items: Beef Rendang Croquettes, Seared Barramundi

This restaurant presents traditional Indonesian food in a modern way and serves cocktails as well. It stood out as an option for a dinner that is more relaxed than fine dining but different from an ordinary warung.

It is often described as new and popular, so check current reservation times and the latest menu.

Pica#

Google rating: 4.7/5 (1,088 reviews, checked 2026-08-30) · Google-displayed popular dishes and items: Pork Belly, Octopus Bochinche

We saved it while looking for somewhere the two of us could sit quietly rather than a large, flashy restaurant. It is a small chef-led restaurant serving Latin American food, offering something different from our other dinner options.

There are not many seats, so a reservation seems better than an impromptu visit.

Mozaic#

Google rating: 4.6/5 (1,414 reviews, checked 2026-08-30) · Google-displayed popular dishes and items: Foie Gras Snow, Mother of Pearl Tartare

It was on the shortlist for one fine-dining splurge during the trip. With a French–Indonesian tasting menu served in a garden, dinner itself would be the evening’s main event.

Before booking, check whether tax and service charges are added to the displayed course price, whether garden seating must be selected separately, and what the cancellation terms are.

Batubara#

Google rating: 4.7/5 (2,865 reviews, checked 2026-08-30) · Google-displayed popular dishes and items: Pulpo A la Brasa, Gambas Al Ajillo

Meat and charcoal-grilled dishes could make a welcome change after several spice-heavy meals. Information about similarly named places and the restaurant’s former location gets mixed together, so confirm its current address before going.

Room4Dessert#

Google rating: 4.6/5 (1,799 reviews, checked 2026-08-30) · Google-displayed popular dishes and items: Spiritless Tasting Menu, The Natural Wine Tasting

This is closer to a place for a dessert course than a café. It is not a place to pop into briefly after dinner.

Check travel time toward Campuhan and the length of the tasting menu before deciding whether to devote a whole evening to it.

Hujan Locale#

Google rating: 4.6/5 (2,796 reviews, checked 2026-08-30) · Google-displayed popular dishes and items: Beef Rendang, Tongseng Kambing

It is worth considering when we want to try food from several regions of Indonesia in one place. It seems suited to a day when fine dining feels like too much but we also do not want to eat only familiar dishes such as nasi goreng.

Keep breakfast nearby#

Pison Ubud#

Google rating: 4.5/5 (7,332 reviews, checked 2026-08-30) · Google-displayed popular dishes and items: Pison Fried Chicken, Truffle Fries

It was one of the first places we saved because of photographs of coffee and brunch with a view of rice fields.

There are many reports that it can be crowded because it is well known. If a rice-field-view seat is the goal, it would be better to go when the wait and available seats work for us.

Watercress Ubud#

Google rating: 4.7/5 (4,927 reviews, checked 2026-08-30) · Google-displayed popular dishes and items: Eggs Benny, Eggs Any Which Way Sourdough

It fits easily into a day walking around Monkey Forest. Rather than making a separate trip by car, we see it as a convenient breakfast or lunch stop while exploring central Ubud.

Melali Ubud#

Google rating: 4.7/5 (1,094 reviews, checked 2026-08-30) · Google-displayed popular dishes and items: No menu displayed on Google · Check the official menu before visiting

It serves brunch, healthy food, and cocktails. We could use it for a late lunch or light dinner if we have been walking around town for a long time and the timing becomes awkward.

Mudra#

Google rating: 4.4/5 (2,108 reviews, checked 2026-08-30) · Google-displayed popular dishes and items: Dragon Bowl Z, Avogasm Toast

We added it while looking for a light meal before or after yoga. Its Ayurvedic-style dishes make it a little different from an ordinary eggs Benedict or smoothie-bowl café.

Zest Ubud#

Google rating: 4.3/5 (3,896 reviews, checked 2026-08-30) · Google-displayed popular dishes and items: Mushroom Pizza, Avocado Toast

This is a place to combine plant-based food with views toward Campuhan. Music or events may make it less suited to a quiet meal, so check the schedule.

Seniman Coffee#

Google rating: 4.6/5 (5,153 reviews, checked 2026-08-30) · Google-displayed popular dishes and items: Flat White, Pastries

This is for a day when coffee matters more than the view. We can try Indonesian beans and, if we like them, buy beans or drip bags as gifts.

Daily Baguette Ubud#

Google rating: 4.4/5 (2,063 reviews, checked 2026-08-30) · Google-displayed popular dishes and items: Cheese Croissant, Susu Aren Iced

We kept it on the list for a quick croissant and coffee before moving on, on days when we don’t want a long brunch.

Chontea#

Google rating: 4.7/5 (873 reviews, checked 2026-08-30) · Google-displayed popular dishes and items: Matcha Tasting, Tea Journey

It’s an option when we feel like tea after several coffee stops. Check the map to see whether it fits naturally with a walk along the rice paths behind Pison.

SUKA UBUD is listed separately as a brunch candidate#

SUKA UBUD · Official#

Google rating: 4.8/5 (7,864 reviews, checked 2026-08-30) · Still displayed as 4.8 on 2026-09-17 · Official hours: daily, 7<30> a.m.–10 p.m.

We initially listed it on one line under the name Suka Espresso, but after revisiting unsponsored Naver reviews and the official page, we decided it was worth comparing separately as a breakfast candidate. Its current official name is shown as SUKA UBUD, a renovated Australian-style café at Jl. Raya Pengosekan No.108. Specialty coffee and brunch are the focus, with afternoon and evening menus as well.

In Korean-language reviews marked self-funded / not an ad, avocado toast, smoothies and açai bowls, and coffee appeared repeatedly. One long-stay review, on the other hand, did not find it overwhelmingly impressive despite its popularity. We therefore see it not as a must-visit restaurant, but as a convenient option for breakfast and coffee on a morning route through Pengosekan, Yoga Barn, and the area south of Monkey Forest. It fits more naturally on a day moving south than on a day walking from Komaneka toward the palace.

The official page also shows a morning brunch promotion and evening programs by day of the week, but these may change frequently. Before going, check the basic menu, tax and service charges, busy periods, and seating; promotions and weekday evening programs may change. Unsponsored review 1 · Unsponsored long-stay review

SUKA UBUD and Nusa By/Suka are different places#

  • SUKA UBUD: Coffee, Australian-style brunch, and an all-day café. Suitable for breakfast or a light meal before heading elsewhere.
  • Nusa By/Suka Ubud · Official: A Mediterranean-style dinner restaurant focused on wood-fired pizza, handmade pasta, and grilled dishes. According to the official page, it is open from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m., so it is not a breakfast candidate.

The similar names make them easy to confuse when saving places on the map or making a reservation. For brunch, choose SUKA UBUD; for a dinner of shared dishes and cocktails, choose Nusa By/Suka Ubud. We also found a Korean-language self-funded review of Nusa, but we give priority to the official menu and current reservation times rather than one article’s praise. Unsponsored Nusa review

A separate shortlist for local warungs#

“Local warung” here does not mean a hidden place known only to residents; several below are well known among tourists, too. We grouped them by what is on the table: casual Balinese and Indonesian home-style food, nasi campur, satay, and babi guling.

PlaceMain dishes to look forHow to fit it into the itineraryThings to note
Warung Makan Bu RusNasi campur, satay, pork ribsLunch on a day walking around the palace and marketEven a large number of recent unsponsored Korean-language reviews is not a guarantee of taste. Check the wait at peak times
In Da Compound WarungNasi campur, chicken/pork satay, local foodOn a day combining Goutama Street and the palaceCheck the tucked-away location, opening status that day, and your tolerance for spices
Sun Sun WarungNasi campur, bebek goreng, satayLunch during a walk around Jembawan and central UbudUnsponsored reviews appeared repeatedly in 2026, but check the lunchtime crowds and closing days
Warung Pondok MaduPork ribs, barbecueA casual dinner when several local meals in a row feel too muchIt is particularly well known among Korean travelers, so we do not treat it as a “local secret.” Check the wait and whether pork is used
Warung KrisnaTom yum, sate lilit, tofu, tempehWhen we want a simple Balinese meal rather than a polished spaceThere are still few recent unsponsored reviews. Check access through the lane, cash or card payment, and operation that day
Warung Lokal UbudNasi campur, capcay, and other local dishesWhen we want to try a smaller local candidate instead of a famous warungOnly one 2026 unsponsored Korean-language review has been confirmed so far. Recheck the location and operating status that day
Warung Babi Guling Pande EgiBabi gulingLunch on a day with a rice-field or outlying driving routeNot a walkable candidate in central Ubud. Check whether ingredients have sold out, and the pork and spice level

The most realistic order is one of Bu Rus, Compound, or Sun Sun on a day walking around town, Pondok Madu if we want ribs, and Pande Egi if we specifically want babi guling and the driving route works. Rather than putting two or three warungs on the same day, choose one and keep the others as backups for a long wait or a closing day.

This grouping was based on cross-checking several 2026 Naver self-funded reviews with 2025–2026 local warung guides. Posts marked as sponsored were not used. More candidates from Reddit and Korean-language reviews#

These candidates came from r/bali recommendations checked on 2026-09-13 and recent Ubud posts we revisited on Naver on 2026-09-17. Reddit comments reflect individual recommendations from residents and travelers; even a Naver post marked self-funded / not an ad is one person’s experience. We kept the places to recheck when the route and preferences fit, not as a ranking.

Warung Makan Bu Rus#

A local-food warung near the Ubud Palace. Recent Korean-language reviews repeatedly mention pork ribs, nasi campur, and chicken satay, making it a lunch option on a day around the palace, market, and central Ubud. Many posts point toward Jl. Suweta. We treated it as a walk-in for an easy local meal between more upscale dinners; check the day’s menu, hours, and wait on the map.

Several unsponsored reviews in 2026 Naver search results described it as a candidate for local food, satay, and pork ribs near the Ubud Palace. We did not judge its taste relative to other places so as not to generalize from one writer’s experience. Unsponsored review 1 · Unsponsored review 2 · Unsponsored review 3

Warung Babi Guling Pande Egi#

This warung specializes in babi guling, Bali-style whole-roasted pork, and is often described as overlooking rice fields. It is outside central Ubud and calls for a drive, so we considered it for lunch on a day visiting a waterfall or eastern Ubud. If babi guling is on the plan, it is a candidate to move up the list. Rather than assuming a reservation is needed, check that day’s operation, whether food has sold out, and traffic before setting out.

It appeared repeatedly as a babi guling candidate on Reddit and in travel guides, and we also found a self-funded Korean-language account of a visit. However, the latest prices and opening hours may change. Unsponsored Korean-language review · Supplementary guide

Murni’s Warung#

Murni’s is recommended as an old Ubud warung with views of the Campuhan River valley and jungle. It fits a walk through town combined with time around Campuhan. A regular meal does not generally call for a reservation, but ask ahead if a terrace or particular seat matters. We saved it for a sense of old Ubud as well as a meal; check the ride back at night and whether the terrace can be used in wet weather.

On Reddit, it was repeatedly recommended in posts asking about special occasions and restaurants with good views, and its name also appeared in 2026 restaurant recommendations. This is a repeated community opinion, not independent verification of food or service. Special-occasion recommendation · 2026 recommendation

Warung Pulau Kelapa#

Introduced as a casual place for Indonesian food among bamboo bridges, gardens, and traditional-house-style buildings, it is more of a drive than a walk from central Ubud. We kept it as an alternative to a tasting-menu format such as Nusantara. A regular meal need not assume a reservation, but check the actual operating location and menu, whether the garden is open, and what seating is available in the rain.

It was recommended in comments by Ubud residents on Reddit for its traditional joglo, garden, and Indonesian-food atmosphere. Special-occasion recommendation · Ubud restaurant comparison

Bebek Tepi Sawah#

This is an option for duck and Balinese dishes with rice-field and garden scenery. We considered it for a day at Maya Ubud when adding one meal outside the resort without going back and forth to town. Reservations are recommended for dinner or a view or garden seat. Check the current seating policy, menu, tax and service charges, and actual driving time from the hotel.

Before booking, confirm the current seating and menu through official channels. Its atmosphere may overlap with Kubu at Mandapa, so there is little reason to reserve both. Official site · Special-occasion recommendation

Fu Shou Noodle Club#

This handmade-noodle restaurant in Peliatan is known for noodle dishes with chicken, barbecue pork, and pork belly. We kept it as an easy dinner after staying around Maya Ubud or finishing an activity, especially for a day when we wanted richer flavors and noodles rather than milder food. Treat it as a casual walk-in, but check the day’s hours and wait, whether the menu contains pork, and the spice level.

Its name appeared in a Reddit recommendation from a user looking for strongly flavored food in Ubud, and a 2026 review page was also visible on Tripadvisor. Reddit recommendation · Tripadvisor

Swept Away at The Samaya Ubud#

This is a special-occasion option beside the Ayung River, better thought of as a car-and-reservation plan than an ordinary dinner in central Ubud. We saved it for a day when the riverside setting and honeymoon atmosphere mattered more than culinary experimentation. Book ahead for a riverfront table or romantic setting, and check the set menu, rainy-weather alternative, and pickup and return transport.

A Reddit post recommending special-occasion restaurants and views mentioned the riverside location as its biggest advantage. Its character overlaps with Kubu at Mandapa and The Sayan House, so we would choose only one of the three. Reddit recommendation · Official dining information

The Sayan House#

This dinner option pairs views of the Ayung River valley with Japanese–Latin fusion and requires a car from central Ubud. We kept it for comparison on an evening when a bar-and-lounge feel might suit better than Kubu. Sunset or view seats are worth reserving; check the actual sunset time, seating, ride back, and latest menu.

It was repeatedly recommended on Reddit for special occasions and views of the river at Sayan. Special-occasion recommendation · Official site

Chupacabras#

Chupacabras is described as Argentine steak with open-air valley scenery. It is a late dinner reached by car, and a way to switch to meat and smoky flavors when the itinerary has had plenty of Indonesian food. Book for sunset or a particular outdoor table, and check the current address, booking process, and rainy-weather seating and menu.

We checked Reddit recommendations alongside the official site, but its grill-oriented character overlaps with Batubara and ORYn. For one special dinner, compare the cuisine and route before deciding. Reddit recommendation · Official site

Casual options found in Korean-language reviews#

Wildberry 18#

A fusion restaurant near Monkey Forest, introduced as an easy choice when a group cannot agree, with options such as ramen, pizza, and pasta. A recent Korean-language review from August 2026 listed reasonable prices and accessibility as strengths, but it seems more like an impromptu meal candidate during a Komaneka stay than a special honeymoon dinner. We would not assume a reservation is necessary. Korean-language review

Cupit BBQ#

A restaurant centered on pork ribs and barbecue. It also appeared as a delivery candidate in an unsponsored Korean-language honeymoon review. Its menu overlaps with Batubara, so one is enough on a day when we want ribs. Confirm directly that it is operating before visiting rather than relying only on seat availability shown by a reservation platform. Unsponsored Korean-language review · Chope

Yoora Kimbap#

A Korean-style casual meal candidate near the Ubud Market and Goutama Street, serving kimbap, ramyeon, tteokbokki, and similar dishes. We saved it as an emergency option for when local food becomes tiring or we need something familiar, rather than as a main restaurant. No reservation should be necessary. Unsponsored Korean-language review

TIS Cafe Ubud#

A café and restaurant whose main attractions are views of the Tegalalang rice terraces, a pool, and swings. The official site describes Asian and Western fusion food alongside the rice-field view. It is better attached to a Tegalalang route than a meal-only trip from central Ubud. Check reservations only if the pool, swings, or a particular table are part of the plan. • Contact first: Sunset or view seats at Swept Away, The Sayan House, Bebek Tepi Sawah, and Chupacabras
  • Contact only if we want a particular seat: Murni’s Warung, Warung Pulau Kelapa
  • Walk-in candidates: SUKA UBUD, Warung Makan Bu Rus, Compound Warung, Sun Sun Warung, Pondok Madu, Pande Egi, Fu Shou Noodle Club, Wildberry 18, Cupit BBQ, Yoora Kimbap
  • Only when the route makes sense: TIS Cafe, Warung Kemulan, Pande Egi
  • Not places to rush into as main restaurant candidates: Candidates found only in Reddit comments and kept on hold

The itinerary plan from before the trip#

  1. 9/18, staying in central Ubud: The plan was to add SUKA UBUD on a morning heading south toward Pengosekan and Yoga Barn. For lunch on a palace-and-market walking day, we had narrowed the choice to one of Bu Rus, Compound, or Sun Sun, depending on the wait; for dinner, one of Pica, Hujan Locale, or Murni’s.
  2. 9/19, moving to Maya Ubud: Hotel check-in and the transfer came first. If breakfast was missed, Cloud Bakery could fit the drive; for dinner outside the resort, the plan was to check just one place on the route, such as Bebek Tepi Sawah.
  3. Pande Egi: Lunch only if a separate drive made sense; not an extra stop on the canyoning day.
  4. 9/20, canyoning day: With a northern transfer and physical exertion, the plan was to skip an outside restaurant reservation and default to a meal at the hotel.
  5. For a special-occasion atmosphere: The plan was to reserve only one of Kubu, Swept Away, or The Sayan House. For an easier Mediterranean dinner, the alternative was Nusa By/Suka.

The plan was not to book every new candidate just because it was famous. If the wait became long or the route awkward, another place in the same category would be the backup.

Korean-language reviews marked self-funded or non-advertising#

We added more place-specific posts after another search. The list below includes posts whose search-result title or description explicitly stated self-funded, “not an advertisement,” or “unrelated to sponsorship and advertising.” We excluded posts marked as sponsored or provided, reposts of the same article, and accommodation or shopping posts unrelated to the restaurants. A large number of links does not guarantee good food; these are provided so that different assessments can be considered together.
